Publishing Issues Fixed

We received reports about issues with automatic publishing to fan pages. We identified the problem and fixed it. Sorry for the inconvenience this might've caused. Please check the solution below to make sure auto-publishing works for you.

Symptoms:

  • Syndication (automatic publishing) to your personal profile works, but it doesn't work for your fan pages.
  • When you go to the syndication page, you see the syndication checkbox for your fan page "unchecked". If you check the box, the next time you write a new blog post it gets unchecked again.
  • Test Posts work on the fan page, but automatic publishing doesn't.

Solution:

  • Go to the syndication page: http://apps.facebook.com/blognetworks/syndication.php
  • click "configure" next to your fan page.
  • Make sure the "auto-publish" checkbox is checked.
  • This fixes the issue for future posts. For existing posts, please publish them manually by going to your blog page on NetworkedBlogs and click on the syndication link under the post and then click 'publish' next to your fan page name.

If you're interested, here is what went wrong:

When we call Facebook's servers to publish a post, they either publish it or return an error message when there is something wrong, and if so, we try to publish again a few times until it either works or we give up. Recently, Facebook started returning the wrong error message. The new error message is like "you don't have permission to publish", which is wrong because it should be like "there is something wrong with your call". When our system gets a "no permission" error, it assumes that the user has disabled publishing permissions and therefore our system disables the syndication for that fan page automatically to avoid future attempts to publish that will likely fail anyway. And that's why you might see the auto-publishing checkbox unchecked in your syndication page.
